$50,787 Chateau Lafite 1982 confounds the wine experts at Heritage

A six magnum lot of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1982 was the top seller at the Beverly Hills auction

Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1982 was the leading vintage at Heritage's May Signature Wine Auction in Beverly Hills on Friday.

Six magnums of the 1982 achieved $50,787 at the sale, surpassing some celebrated opponents in the process.

The pre-sale talk had revolved around three magnums of Chateau Latour a Pomerol 1961, which came in at a solid $33,460.

Wine connoisseur Robert Parker states in his 1998 Bordeaux publication: "If I had only one Bordeaux to drink, the 1961 Latour a Pomerol would have to be at the top of my list."

12 bottles of DRC Assortment 1990, estimated at $37,500, achieved $44,812.

The sale was simulcast to Hong Kong, marking Heritage's first dalliance with the Asian market, and evidence of the growing appetite for fine wine investment in the region.
