$240,000 ruby and diamond set leads Bloomsbury's Jewellery sale in Rome

The Parure necklace and earring set will be accompanied by a coffee-pot commissioned for Royalty

Tomorrow, November 24 Bloomsbury Auctions is holding a sale of fine jewellery, comprising 294 lots, a number of which are investment-grade.

We'll just take a look at a couple of particularly striking examples here:

Firstly, there is a 'Periforme' coffee pot with extensive embossed and engraved 'chinoiserie' motifs.

Created in London for George III in 1762 by Argentiere Francis Cripps it is an extraordinary, shining-bright example of its kind. The foot upon which the coffee pot rests is decorated with embossed and engraved rope edgings and rosettes.

However the expected top lot is an important Parure set of Burmese rubies and diamonds, which belonged to a family of Roman princes, and which was commissioned in the 1930s. The set consists of a necklace and a pair of earrings.

The necklace pendant is made of platinum and the set is expected to achieve 105,000-150,000 ($240,000). Bloomsbury's sale takes place in Rome. Watch this space for the results.
