22k Chteau Lafite 1982 stars at wines auction
The legendary vintage will sell alongside 58 bottles of the highly-venerated 2005 Bordeaux
Sotheby's in London will hold a comprehensive auction of Fine and Rarest Wines & Vintage Port, tomorrow (November 11).
The 776 lots will include top Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhne, Champagne and Vintage Port - with a particular focus on the renowned 2005 Bordeaux.
Among the starlots are 12 bottles of Chteau Lafite 1982, estimated at 16,000-22,000 each. The vintage has "kept its intensely aromatic nose" with a taste "full of youthful acidity," according to Sotheby's.
Othercoveted will wines include the gloriously scented and open textured Chteau Haut Brion 1989 (six magnums) at an estimated 7,000-8,000 per lot.
September 21 to October 5, 1998, was a good time for the Chteau Cheval Blanc - an "ideal scenario vintage... amazingly vivacious and vibrant", says Sotheby's. Twelve 1998 bottles will go under the hammerpriced at 3,200-4,000 each.
Also making an appearance will be 12 bottles of the stunning Chteau Latour 2000. Regarded as a great Latour with a taste of cocoa and coffee plus "immensely opulent fruit", the vintagewill auctionat 5,500-6,500 per lot.
Aside from the Chteau Lafite 1982,the major highlightwill bethe incredible showcase of 58 different Bordeaux wines of the distinguished 2005 vintage.
These include the Chteau Lafite 2005, described by the auctioneers as a "big, huge, massive rich wine," an "absolute 'must have'" and a "giant in all senses of the word."
With an introduction like that, the 12 bottles should easily match their estimate of 6,000-7,000.
