19th century U.S. Mint test coins at auction silver dollar

Thirty 19th Century U.S Mint coins have sold for more than $500,000 at Heritage Auctions with one 1871 aluminium struck silver dollar alone selling for $76,375. The coins were stamped by the U.S Mint to test designs and metals and once formed part of the collection of Texas businessman and philanthropist Harry W. Bass, Jr. The Harry W. Bass Jr. Foundation will receive all of the proceeds from the sale of these coins.
