19th century Spanish botanical text leads auction

Featuring a rare copy of Martin de Argenta's Album de Flora Medico-Farmaceutica

At Dominic Winter's book auction on January 27, the travel section is to be dominated by a Matthaus Seutter atlas.

The natural history section, on the other hands offers a rare example of Album de Flora Medico-Farmaceutica e Industrial, Indigena y Exotica, in three volumes.

The 1862 Spanish work offers carefully hand-painted lithographs of 300 plants with their Latin names.

A botanical work was a big hit last year at Ketterer Kunst's rare book auction: Weinmann's 18th century work Phytanthoza-Iconographia sold for 56,000.

This lot has a more modest estimate. It has been given a guide price of 3,000-4,000.
