1996 Chateau Petrus Pomerol 1996 turned out to be another great year for Bordeaux's most distinctive offering

Chateau Petrus has seen excellent results so far in 2012, after being named the king of investments by Christie's wine expert, Anthony Hanson. The wine has seen an annual return of 14% "all the way through bull and bear markets", he said recently, adding thatPetrus is "incredibly dependable as a chateau".

Petrus' dependability has been attributed to the fact that the chateau does not use modern winemaking techniques and instead favours slower, moretraditional methods.

The 1996 vintage wasreportedly met with scepticism from Petrus' owner and vineyard manager Christian Moueix though, according to tasters, it has turned out to be another great year for the distinctive Bordeaux. Two 12 bottle cases will be offered in the sale with identical estimates of $14,000-18,000.

The two cases will be followed by 12 bottles of the 1969 vintage fromBurgundy's La Tache. The case will sell with another $14,000-18,000 estimate.

PFC Auctions is currently offering a trio of fine wines in its latest sale, which closes today. Visit our Wines, Whisky & Spirits news section for more of the latest on wine collecting and investment.
