1988 Romanee-Conti magnums top Acker auction at $39,500

Acker, Merrall and Condit's June 29 auction saw two magnums of 1988 Romanee-Conti sell well

Two magnums of 1988 Romanee-Conti have provided the top lot at Acker, Merrall and Condit's June 29 auction in New York.

Romanee-Conti is the most illustrious wine from the legendary Domaine de la Romanee-Conti

The sale totalled an impressive $3.4m, with strong demand for rareBurgundy bottles and the classic Bordeaux vintages. The two magnums of the 1988 Burgundy sold for $39,360.

Californian wines also fared well, with seven half-cases of the Harlan Estate Red from Napa Valley selling for $29,250. Four three-bottle losts of Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 followed, each making $6,765.

"California's been very healthy recently," Acker's CEO John Kapon told Bloomberg. "It has its loyal and devoted collectors."
