1960 Bertone 'Jet' DB4GT to star at Bonhams' Aston Martin sale

A unique 1960 Aston Martin DB4GT with coachwork by Bertone will provide one of many highlights in Bonhams' forthcoming sale at the Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell, UK.

The annual sale will take place on May 18 and will be the first to utilise the Heritage Showroom, which was added as part of a major redevelopment of the historic site. The DB4GT is expected to see bids in the region of 2.8-3.8m ($4.2m-5.7m).

The magnificent motor is nicknamed The Jet, and was the last DB4GT to come off the production line. Making its debut at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, it is the only example that features coachwork by the esteemed Italiandesign firm Bertone and was one of the earliest commissions for the young Giorgetto Giugiaro,one of the mosthighly respected and celebrated car designers of the 20th century.

The DB4GThas since been restored to concours condition by the Aston Martin Works, and has won 12 awards including First in Class at Pebble Beach and Best in Show at Villa D'Este. This is the first time it has been seen at auction in over 25 years.

Also featuring in the sale is an original condition barn-find Aston Martin DB5 Sports Saloon, which was bought by its present owner for 1,500 in 1972, but is now expected to bring as much as 200,000 ($305,194) come sale day.

A barn-find Jaguar E-Type will also be offered by Bonhams on April 29, at its annual sale at the Royal Airforce Museum.
