1954 MV Agusta 123.5cc motorcycle to headline Autumn Stafford Sale

The 1954 MV Agusta 123.5cc is one of the best light motorcycles of its era

A 1954 MV Agusta 123.5cc Bialbero Racing Motorcycle is the headline lot of Bonhams' Autumn Stafford Sale at the Staffordshire County Showground, UKon October 19.

While MV Agusta'spowerful four-strokes made the Italian manufacturer's reputation, it also produced a well received series of lightweight racing bikes.

1954 MV Augusta MV Augusta dominated motorbike racing between the 1940s and 1980s

Its riders dominated competitions between the late 1940s and early 1980s, winning more than 3,000 races (including 270 Grand Prix) and a staggering 37 world championships.

The consignor acquired the lot in poor condition in 1997 and fully restored it in 1998. It's expected to make 55,000-75,000 ($88,596-120,813).

A 1914 Flying Merkel 980CC V-Twin is valued at 50,000-70,000 ($80,542-112,758).

Joseph Merkel established his company in Wisconsin in 1901, growing it in to one of the most forward thinking manufacturers of its era.

Its bikes were built with rear suspension and telescopic forks at a time when most marques stuck to rigid frames.

This rare example was sold toa localaficionadoafter being discovered in a barn in Ohio in 1956. Since that time, it has received only minor cosmetic and mechanical work.

Other lots include a unique 1999 Kawasaki 676cc W650 Custom by Deus Ex Machina.
