1940s Italian Sofa at auction from Christie's

While this Italian sofa isn't the most expensive or remarkable piece of furniture to appear at Christie's, I marvel at the design considering its age. The small, ornate legs and gentle bend in the frame are at least 15 years ahead of their time. Also consider that in 1940 Italy would have just joined the war, a time when anything surplus to requirement was immediately frowned upon. In context, British furniture from the same time looked like Battersea Power Station covered in paisley fabric.
