The 1853 bill of lading details the shipment of a slave between Baltimore and New Orleans

An 1853 bill of lading for a slave shipped between Baltimore and New Orleans is estimated at $800-1,200 in Alexander Historical Auctions' September 10 sale.

The document reads in part: "Shipped by C. T. Maddox in and upon the good Barque Pamphylia whereof is master for the present voyage Dan'l. Shedd now riding at anchor inBaltimore and bound for New Orleans

"One slave named Thomas Bishopto be delivered atNew Orleans(the dangers of the Seas, and unavoidable escapes exceptedMessrs Kendall Yoe & Co.paying freight for the said slave Twenty dollars"
