$150k white diamond ring lights up New York auction

A final preview of the best pieces to look for in tomorrow's exciting sale

Sotheby's sale of important jewels takes place tomorrow, February 3, and as we reported most of the very best pieces are yellow diamonds.

One exception, however, is a platinum ring set with a white diamond, estimated at $100,000-150,000.

The ring, created in 1930, comes from a New York estate. It is a deceptively simple, dazzling piece jewellery, with the 9.58ct square emerald-cut diamond held in place by 0.7ct bullet shaped and whistle cut diamonds and graded to fit size 6.

In a similar style, a 1925 necklace with a pear-shaped 3ct white diamond suspended from a platinum chain with marquise-shape and old European-cut diamonds will be expected to bring $50,000-70,000.

The main diamond is D-colour, and internally flawless, whilst one of the diamonds is tastefully accentuated with green stones.

The auction takes place in New York, and will also feature some jewellery which belonged to novelist Danielle Steel.
