$11,300 Cold War bunker set to be hot property at May auction

A unique piece of British militaria is coming to auction in Lincolnshire next month

A Cold War bunker is coming to auction next month and is sure to attract militaria investors and collectors with an eye on the unusual.

The Lincolnshire bunker, which sits 15ft underground, has a guide price of 7,000.

It comes complete with insulated walls, 12-watt lighting, an outside power supply and a fuel-burning stove.

The former Royal Observer Corps bunker is being sold by Lincoln property agent JH Walter.

Said to be setin a "stunning Wolds location", the bunker is a "rare and exciting chance to acquire a piece of Cold War history", according to the company.

Located three miles from Horncastle, the site was intended to be used by three-man teams to monitor nuclear attacks should the enemy strike.

Decommissioned in 1992 following the fall of the Berlin Wall, it is one of around 1,500 former nuclear bunkers in the country.

Capel Battery, a network of tunnels used as a lookout point and hospital during the second world war, sold for 144,000 in 2009. The Kent site surpassed its guide price by 44,000, suggesting that the bunker could well make five figures when it comes to auction on May 12.
