I've been hearing a lot recently about the patterns used by battleships in the first and second world war on the sides of ships, by way of camouflage. It might seems strange to mask a ship by painting it in funky disco patterns, but when you've only got a couple of seconds to locate points of interest on a ship through a periscope this makes it much harder for eyes to locate design features accurately. Shown off here on the German Terpitz in lovely 1:200 scale.
