Memorabilia from the Lusitania up for auction
Memorabilia from the tragic British ocean liner Lusitania, which was struck by a torpedo from a German U boat in 1915, will be up for auction this weekend.
Among the items hitting the auction block with be a breakfast menu for what was described as Second Cabin passengers that illustrates that even second-class passengers enjoyed the 5 star treatment on the liner.
The menu is to be sold alongside two dinner plates, a commemorative medal, a post card and a silk ribbon which were also salvaged from the ship.
Some 1,198 passengers and crew were killed when the German torpedo struck as the ship sailed from New York to Liverpool on the 1 May 1915.
The memorabilia will be sold by Lynes & Lynes Auction Rooms tomorrow.
