Lot 729: WWII Medals & Logbook. A collection of personal belongings to Flight Lieutenant W. Sparrow, Royal Air Force, Burma Star, Defence and War Medals, RAF Long Service & G.C., G.VI.R. (365391 F/Sgt. W, Sparrow. R.A.F.), extremely fine, mounted for wearing, with dress miniature awards, with an extensive archive relating to the recipient including original documents, b/w photographs including three group photographs of the Apprentices Wing Royal Air Force, Cranwell 1929, wedding day photograph, two fine images of the Salon de L'Aviation, Grand Palais, Paris 1938 showing the exhibitition stand of Hawker Siddeley, letters include one from the Air Ministry dated 1956, giving thanks from the Queen for leaving the Active List, educational certificates, a logbook kept by the recipient, first entry 21.9.1943 (Lancaster J.A. 904), last entry 16.2.1944, total flying time 129hrs45mins, a silver plated cigarette case (still containing cigarettes!), medal boxes, a large collection sporting medals won by the recipient (some silver) including a Royal Tournament medal won whilst stationed at RAF Scampton (home of 617 Squadron), badges, buttons, trophies, Officer's dress cap etc., a comprehensive list of contents can be provided. Flight Lieutenant William Sparrow (1908-82), born in Brentwood, Essex, served with the Royal Air Force (Tech. Branch) from 1924-56, retired from service in 1956 after 17 years 263 days service, he served in Iraq from 1929-32 and India from 1932 - 1943. (a carton)
