Lot 529: Celebration Window Hanger. A hand-painted on a circular glass depiction of a hydrogen air balloon, the gondola in the shape of a boat, flying over trees and houses, signed Fr (les Fr?res) Robert and dated 19/9/1784, the circular glass held in a lead frame with a hanging chain attached, 15cm diameter. On the 19th September 1784, brothers Anne-Jean Robert and Nicolas-Louis Robert, with M. Colin Hullin flew La Carolina, a hydrogen balloon, a distance of 186 km (115.5 miles) from Paris to Beuvry, the first flight of over 100kms.
