Lot 514: Partly-printed DS, signed "B. Lincoln" and "T. Melvill," one page, 9.75 x 5, July 13, 1807. Port of Boston and Charlestown document certifying an import of "one Hogshead of Rum." Signed at the conclusion by Benjamin Lincoln as collector and countersigned by Thomas Melvill as inspector. Professionally inlaid into a slightly larger sheet. Trimmed edges and scattered dampstaining, otherwise fine condition. Lincoln is remembered as the Continental Army officer who formally accepted the British surrender at Yorktown, while Melvill is best known as a member of the Sons of Liberty who participated in the Boston Tea Party.
