Lot 480: Simpson (James). A Visit to Flanders, in July 1815, Being Chiefly an Account of the Field of Waterloo, with a Short Sketch of Antwerp and Brussels, at that Time Occupied by the Wounded of both Armies, 4th edition, Edinburgh, 1816, engraved folding plan, closed tear repairs to verso, detailed manuscript notes in a contemporary hand to lower margins or on folding tabs pasted to lower margins, some spotting and light browning, contemporary half calf, some wear, neat calf reback, 12mo The manuscript notes, possibly by a Waterloo veteran, all refer to passages within the printed text and give additional anecdotal details. These details appear to be both taken from published sources and primary sources, the information sometimes written in the first person.
