Comet ISON unfolds its wings

2015-07-06 12:22:01

New images of ISON indicate that the comet lost individual fragments in the past days, generating the bat wing shaped debris trail we see above. On November 28th, 2013 the comet will fly by the Sun at a distance of only 1.8 million kilometers and could either break up completely or get even more interesting as it's tail reflects solar rays. We'll have to wait and see if it rivals Hale Bopp as we have been led to believe.
