Lot 748: Boer War. Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, four clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (5577 Cpl W. Pollard, Gloucester Regt), nearly extremely fine, with copied paperwork. 5577 Private William E. Pollard served during the Boer War with 2nd Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment, slightly wounded below left elbow at Pompi Siding (Edenburg) 26.2.1902, served on the Western Front with the 1st Battalion during WWI from 25.11.1914, committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor whilst of unsound mind on 5.1.1915, Pollard is buried in Oxford (Botley) Cemetery.
