The Soviet Union started awarding the official honorary title of a "Hero of Socialist Labour" in 1938. Four years earlier the Soviets had introduced the Hero of the Soviet Union. In order to clearly distinguish the Heroes of Socialist Labour from other Order of Lenin (H.O.S.U.) recipients, the "Hammer and Sickle" gold medal was introduced. Other communist nations also issued Heroes of Labor awards and you can find tailored versions of from Vietnam to Cuba.

Repros are cheap and easy to find. An original will usually sell for a few grand. As much as $5-$6,000 even!
