A manuscript volume of reports of inquests held at Guildhall, Doncaster, 1859-1872, 541 inquest reports on approximately 250 leaves, written in various hands, each giving a detailed account from various people connected to the demise of the deceased in each case, for example surgeons, family members, neighbours, etc., with 70pp. at rear with monetary accounts titled 'An Abstract of Inquisitions' for the Borough of Doncaster, original half sheep, worn, lacking spine and corners showing, thick 4to. A fascinating account, with descriptions of a large number of deaths, and with various verdicts recorded, such as: Accidentally killed on the Great Northern Railway'; 'Found dead in bed, death being caused by apoplexy, through excessive drinking'; 'Died from injuries received by being accidentally knocked down by a locomotive engine'; 'Died suddenly on the way to the workhouse By the visitation of God'; Mortally scalded by accidentally falling into a Brewery Vat'; 'Found drowned in the River Don'; 'Hung himself in a fit of temporary insanity'.
