London Jack the Ripper Museum causes outrage
A London museum has caused outrage after obtaining planning permission as ‘the only dedicated resource in the East End to women’s history’-only to reveal itself as a museum dedicated to Jack the Ripper.
Planning permission was granted for the build by the Tower Hamlets council last year. Former diversity chief at Google Mark Palmer-Edgecumbe had sent a planning document last July in the hope of turning disused flats into a museum of women's history-citing the closure of Whitechapel’s Women’s Library in Old Castle Street in 2013.
It was only last week when the curtains came down that the museums true identity was revealed.
Local residents have branded the move 'a sick joke' though the council claim they have no authority over the museums contents.
