Aladdin Thundercats lunchbox

The Aladdin Thundercats lunchbox is a vintage collectible lunchbox featuring characters from the 1980s animated series ‘Thundercats’.

Thundercats was an animated television series which first aired in 1985, following the adventures of a race of cat-like alien creatures and their battles against a race of mutants on the planet called Third Earth. The original cartoon ran for four seasons and 130 episodes, with the characters subsequently appearing in comic books, video games and a rebooted cartoon series which began in July 2011.

The huge popularity of the early cartoons spawned a range of merchandise that included a bset-selling line of action figures and toys, a board game and a metal lunchbox released in 1985 by Aladdin Industries.

The box has red borders and a matching handle, with illustrated colour graphics on each panel. The front of the box shows the main characters, including Jaga, Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro, Cheetara, WilyKit and Snarf. Each is seen wielding a weapon, beneath the show’s title logo.

The back of the box shows an image of Lion-O, facing off against Mumm-Ra in front of the Cat’s Lair Thundercats base. The side panels feature images of Mumm-Ra disguised in his robes, Panthro battling the mutant Jackalman, and Tygra fighting against Slithe.

The matching thermos flask shows an image of the Thundercats, with Tygra piloting the Thundertank.

How much is an Aladdin Thundercats lunchbox worth?

The enduring popularity of Thundercats means that although the box is relatively common, it remains sought after by a generation of collectors.

Unused boxes in mint condition and complete with their tags can sell for $100 - $120 on sites like eBay. However, the price quickly drops off due to the lack of rarity and used boxes in good condition can be found for $30 - $50 depending on wear and tear.
