The Jane Austen House Museum has managed to raise the £149,000 ($238,000) needed to secure Austen's ring, which was the subject of an export bar from culture minister Ed Vaisey following Clarkson's £152,450 purchase from Sotheby's in 2012. I'm pretty sure I agree with the decision to keep it in England but it does set a dangerous precedent of government interference.

Very common with "antiquities" Not sure when something becomes an antiquity but the precedent is well and truly set.

It's actually a pretty common occurrence. Happens a lot when items are deemed 'Of National Interest'.
