21 Mar 2012, 10:04 GMT

Cowan’s Auctions are preparing for their inaugural sale of Fine Jewelry and Timepieces at the end of March. With 300 lots on offer, the auction will include a wide variety of signed and unsigned jewelry, watches and couture items such as vintage handbags.

“We have a great range of items for every collector’s price point and taste,” said Cowan’s Director of Fine Jewelry and Timepieces, Tara Eggleston-Johnston. “My goal was to appeal to every collector, no matter the price point, and I believe this sale accomplishes that.”

To celebrate the sale, Cowan’s will host a champagne reception along with a preview of the auction on Wednesday March 28. The event is preceded by an afternoon of private consultations with experts from Krombholz Jeweler, during which potential bidders can receive advice and information on repair, restoration and custom design.

As with most jewelry auctions, diamonds will top the bill. Highlights include:

  • A 5.05 carat natural fancy yellow pear-shaped cut diamond, set in a platinum and 22k yellow gold ring flanked with two trillion-cut diamonds, valued at $50,000 - $70,000
  • An Emerald-Cut Natural Fancy Yellow Diamond Ring valued at $25,000 - $45,000
  • A pair of Natural Alexandrite and Diamond Earrings valued at $35,000 - $55,000

Along with exquisite jewelry, fine timepieces will also feature heavily with many of the world’s top manufacturers represented.

Bidders will be offered the chance to acquire watches including a Patek Philippe Calatrava with 18K Gold Mesh Band estimated at $5,000 - $7,000, a Piaget Decorated Face Timepiece with estimated at $800 - $1,000 and a vintage diamond set pocket watch estimated at $2,500 - $5,000.

The final section of the sale will feature both vintage and modern couture accessories, with handbags from designers including Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander McQueen.

The sale will take place on Thursday March 29 at Cowan’s saleroom in Cincinnati, Ohio.
