Vintage Pierre Chareau Furniture is original furniture created by the French designer Pierre Chareau.
Brief history and description
Pierre Chareau was born on August 4th, 1883 and died on August 24th, 1950, and was a well-known and popular French furniture designer and architect during the 1930s.
During his lifetime Chareau became one of the pioneers in the Art Deco movement, and his most notable work included building the first steel and glass house in France, (the Maison de Verre). Not just limited to architecture, Pierre Chareau also went on to design many groundbreaking furniture items, such as desks, tables, chairs, lamps and much more.
Guide for collectors
The majority of vintage Pierre Chareau furniture items sell for very high prices at auctions, however, Chareau's walnut and wrought iron "L" desks are considered to be the most rare and valuable among collectors.
Restoration of a vintage Pierre Chareau furniture item is recommended, but only if there is noticeable damage. However, restoring a vintage Pierre Chareau furniture item may decrease its value.

Phillips de Pury & Company in New York sold a pair of alabaster and iron Pierre Chareau sconces for $28,000 in June of 2006, another pair of alabaster and iron Pierre Chareau sconces for $9,500 in May of 2007, and Sotheby's in New York sold a pair of alabaster and iron Pierre Chareau sconces for $24,000 in December of 2003.
Phillips de Pury & Company in New York sold a Pierre Chareau walnut and wrought iron "L" desk (circa 1937) for $220,000 in May of 2005.
Sotheby's in Paris sold a wrought iron and palissander desk with a matching stool for €348,000 in November of 2006.
Phillips de Pury & Company in New York sold a beech-veneered wood, mahogany and iron Pierre Chareau cupboard for $190,000 in December of 2007.
Sotheby's in New York sold an iron Pierre Chareau side table (26" x 24") for $78,000 in December of 2003, and an iron and parchment Pierre Chareau stool for $26,400 in December of 2003.
