Brief history and description

Pierre Chareau was born on August 4th, 1883 and died on August 24th, 1950, and was a well-known and popular French furniture designer and architect during the 1930s.

During his lifetime Chareau became one of the pioneers in the Art Deco movement, and his most notable work included building the first steel and glass house in France, (the Maison de Verre). Not just limited to architecture, Pierre Chareau also went on to design many groundbreaking furniture items, such as desks, tables, chairs, lamps and much more.

Guide for collectors

The majority of vintage Pierre Chareau furniture items sell for very high prices at auctions, however, Chareau's walnut and wrought iron "L" desks are considered to be the most rare and valuable among collectors.

Restoration of a vintage Pierre Chareau furniture item is recommended, but only if there is noticeable damage. However, restoring a vintage Pierre Chareau furniture item may decrease its value.
