Vintage Art Deco Cocktail Cabinets are original pieces of furniture produced in the Art Deco.

Brief history and description

Art deco cocktail cabinets were increasingly popular from the 1920s to the 1950s, and commonly feature various different folding mechanisms to allow for more room and space for drinks, glasses and bottles, (such as serving areas that move outward from the side of the cabinet, or boards that fold up from the top of the cabinet).

The majority of art deco cocktail cabinets usually feature light fixtures, mirrored panels, brass hardware, and chrome juicers, and are built from a variety of different woods such as maple (including birds-eye maple), cherry, rosewood, cedar, oak, sycamore, or mahogany.

Value

Maple art deco cocktail cabinets are worth between £600 and £1,000, however, art deco cocktail cabinets that are made out of bird's eye maple sell for between £900 and £3,800

Art deco walnut cocktail cabinets can be worth between £300 and £1,500.

Sotheby's in London sold an art deco shagreen-covered cocktail cabinet for £7,800 in May of 2005.

Vintage art deco cocktail cabinets that are sold along with a matching set or suite usually fetch for much higher prices at auctions as well:

Sotheby's in London sold an art deco cocktail cabinet along with a dining table, a set of six dining chairs and a sideboard for £6,600 in November of 2006, and another art deco cocktail cabinet along with a walnut dining table and six side chairs for £9,840 in May of 2003.

Guide for collectors

Art Deco Shagreen-covered cocktail cabinets are considered to be the most rare and valuable among collectors. Vintage art deco cocktail cabinets that are sold with a matching dining set (such as matching dining chairs and/or dining tables) are considered to be more valuable as well.

Restoration of a vintage art deco cocktail cabinet is recommended, but only if there is noticeable damage. Although restoring a vintage art deco cocktail cabinet may reduce its value, many vintage art deco cocktail cabinets have been rewired or even restored to include more modern features as well.
