Vintage Arne Vodder Furniture is original furniture produced by the celebrated Danish designer Arne Vodder.

History & Description

Arne Vodder was a Danish furniture designer and is considered to be one of the most influential mid-twentieth century designers.

Arne Vodder was among a number of Scandinavian furniture designers who received international recognition in the 1950s and 1960s for their innovative and elegant designs. While not as well-known as his contemporaries such as Arne Jacobsen and Verner Panton, Arne Vodder’s work was typical of the Danish Modern style.

His works were crafted in natural materials such as teak and rosewood and featured simple and sleek lines that were free of sharp edges.

Vodder is primarily known for his colour-accented rosewood sideboards with drawers shaped so that there was no need for handles. Additionally, Vodder’s teak and beech chaise lounge chairs are considered to be another of his classic designs.

Guide for collectors

During his career, Vodder produced a range of furniture, including sofas, desks, table and hall furniture that featured curved and almost organic lines. However, his chaise lounge chairs and exotic wood sideboards with coloured panels are perhaps the most popular among collectors and typically fetch the highest prices at auction.

While a few of his pieces have appeared at international auction houses like Christie’s, collectors are more likely to purchase Arne Vodder furniture at national auction houses.

Furthermore, collectors can also find Arne Vodder furniture offered on online bidding sites, such as eBay, or online antique furniture dealers like World Antique and Vintage Seekers.
