Original Verner Panton Cone Chairs
Original Verner Panton Cone Chairs are a specific style of vintage chair produced by the danish designer Verner Panton.
History & Description
Having travelled across Europe in the 1950s in a Volkswagen van, Verner Panton returned to Denmark with a fresh approach to his furniture designs. The result was the now iconic Cone chair. Despite the chair’s simple and futuristic shape, at the heart of its design is an inherent functionality that was typical of the Danish Modern movement.
Designed in 1958, the chair shocked the public due to its gravity defying structure. When it was exhibited in a shop in New York, the police ordered for its removal due to the chaos its presence created on the nearby sidewalks and roads.
Guide for collectors
Furthermore, vintage Panton Cone chairs have also been advertised on internet bidding sites, such as eBay. However, collectors should always try to attain as much information as possible from the seller in order to verify that they are in fact purchasing a vintage Cone chair. Due to the popularity of the design, there are numerous contemporary reproductions and replicas on the market.
