Marc Newson's Lockheed Lounge to Head To Auction
Love it or hate it, Marc Newson's polished metal piece "Lockheed Lounge" is the most expensive piece of furniture ever sold by a living designer. That's why it's big news that it's heading back to auction later this month in Phillips' design sale on the 28th of April, knowing fully well that it might break that record again.
Most recently one of the Lockheed Lounge chairs sold for £1.1 million at auction in 2009 and if anything the market is significantly stronger than it was those few short years ago. In total 15 of the chairs were made and the growth in value is down to the unmistakable shape and design of the thing which is known all over the world.
