Ethan Allen is an American furniture manufacturer, with close to 300 stores around the world. Company origins
The company was established in 1932 by the brothers-in-law Nathan S. Ancell and Theodore Baumritter. The Baumritter Corporation manufactured housewares until 1936, when it purchased a bankrupt furniture factory and sawmill in Beecher Falls, Vermont. It began to produce a line of furniture named Ethan Allen, after the American Revolutionary war hero who had helped found the state of Vermont.
Today the company is one of the United States' largest furniture retailers, with sales in the U.S alone of approximately $980 million.
