This week's featured auction is the Rago: Remix sale on April 7, starring an eclectic mix of contemporary and classic furniture, design and decorative objects. Here are 10 of our favourite lots on offer.
Modern Tall-Back Lounge Chair
Estimate: $800 - $1,000
This striking tall-back lounge chair is made from stained wood with embroidered upholstery, and was produced by an unknown designer in the 1960s.
Millinery Model Head Of Child
Estimate: $700 - $900
A highly detailed wax mannequin head of a child, complete with glass eyes. Originally made in Italy in the 1930s, the head was used as a store display in a milliner's, and comes complete with its original wooden stand.
American Grain-Painted Chest Of Drawers
Estimate: $4,000 - $6,000
This grain-painted chest of drawers was produced in Maine in the mid-19th century, and features a bow front, with the four long drawers flanked by turned supports.
English Arts & Crafts Judaica
Estimate: $800 - $1,200
This English Arts & Crafts box, made from sterling silver and copper, and enamel with wooden liner, was produced by Albert Edward Jones of Birmingham in 1904.
This is an etrog box, a ceremonial box designed to hold the yellow citrus fruit during the Jewish week-long holiday of Sukkot.
Vintage Pennsylvania Railroad Illustration
Estimate: $1,800 - $2,400
This vintage advertising illustration is circa 1950, and was produced as part of an advertising campaign for the New York, Pennsylvania railroad.
George Nelson For Herman Miller Furniture
Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000
This set of mid-century cabinets and a bench was created by George Nelson, the celebrated industrial designer and one of the founders of American modernism.
The pieces, made from bleached mahogany, birch, ebonised wood and zinc-plated metal, were produced in the 1950s by the Herman Miller furniture company, whilst Nelson served as the company's director of design.
Eugene Biel Abstract Artwork
Estimate: $3,000 - $5,000
This vibrant, abstract still-life oil on canvas was painted by Eugene Biel-Bienne (1902 – 1969), an Austrian-born American painter whose work can be found in museums such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris.
Edgar Brandt Boudoir Lamp
Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000
This early 20th century handmade wrought iron boudoir lamp with a glass dome shade was made by Edgar Brandt, a French ironworker better known as a weapons designer who created mortars, artillery shells and grenades throughout WWII.
Two Arnt Arntzen Rocket Tables
Estimate: $1,200 - $1,600
These contemporary rocket side tables made from copper, steel and glass are the work of Arnt Arntzen, a renowned Canadian furniture designer based in Vancouver.
Lidya Buzio Cityscape Pottery
Estimate: $2,500 - $3,500
A large pottery vessel with teacup and saucer by the Uruguayan-born American ceramist Lidya Buzio (1948-2014), initialled and dated 1982. Buzio's New York-inspired work can be found in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the V&A.
