Lot 2000: Exceptionally Fine Early Production Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle in .45-90

This is an exceptional example of a second year production Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 Fancy Sporting Rifle manufactured in 1887. The rifle has a 26-inch full octagon barrel and half-magazine. The barrel has Winchester "Express" front sight with colored bead and a sporting style buckhorn rear sight with serrated edges. The upper receiver tang is fitted with a first style Lyman "Combination Tang Peep Sight" marked "Pat. Jan. 29/79". The stock and forearm are highly figured, fancy grade walnut with Winchester "Style H" checkering. The stock has a pistol grip with ebony inlay and steel, shotgun style buttplate. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "- MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber "45-90 W.C.F." is stamped on the top barrel flat between the rear sight and the receiver. The 1884 and 1885 patent dates are stamped on the lower tang behind the trigger, and the serial number "7823" is stamped in script numerals behind the tang screws. The barrel, loading gate, bolt, trigger and buttplate are blued, and the receiver, forearm cap, hammer and lever have the very desirable color casehardened finish
