Vintage Strawberry Shortcake Dolls are collectible dolls produced during the 1980s.

History & Description

Strawberry Shortcake is a licensed character owned by American Greetings Corporation Inc., the world’s biggest publicly traded greeting cards company.

The character was initially used in greeting cards and was designed by Muriel Fahrian in 1977 during her time as a greeting card illustrator in American Greetings’ Juvenile & Humorous card department. In the late-1970s, Fahrian was commissioned to design a whole catalogue of new characters and the line expanded to include posters, dolls and other products.

The majority of the characters were designed prior to the release of the first Strawberry Shortcake TV specials in 1980 but were not released as dolls until the mid-1980s.

Strawberry Shortcakes dolls that were released in the 1980s include Berry Bake Shoppe, Snail Cart, Carrousel, Berry-Shaped Carry Case, Flitter-Bit the Butterfly, Garden House, Big Berry Trolley, Berry Merry Worm, Berry Happy Home and Maple Stirrup and the Oatsmobile.

Guide for collectors

While vintage Strawberry Shortcake dolls are occasionally sold through national auction houses, records show that the most valuable items are sold on eBay.

The price of a doll is determined by its rarity, popularity and condition. Collectors should look out for vintage Strawberry Shortcake dolls that are sold in their original casings or boxes, as these are usually in the best condition and, as a result, are the most valuable to collectors.

There are numerous websites that are a great source of information for Strawberry Shortcake collectors. A few good examples include; Strawberry Central, Strawberry-Shortcake and Ghost of the Doll.
