Steiff 125 karat teddy bear
Steiff 125 karat teddy bear is a teddy bear manufactured by Steiff to celebrate their 125th anniversary. The bear comes in a set with a small stuffed elephant.
The bear is made of 70% mohair and 30% silk. The silk is a gold yarn that is hand stitched into the mohair by a professional wig maker. One metre of the yarn takes 20 hour to make and costs £850.
The bear is 50cm in height. Its eyes are sapphires, each of which is surrounded by 20 Russian cut diamonds. The eyes are set in 18 karat yellow gold. The nose, mouth, button in the ear and medallion worn by the bear are made of 24 karat gold.
The elephant is decorated with precious stones including one karat of diamonds and onyx beads on the saddlecloth.
The elephant’s eyes are made of onyx and its tusks are made of actual mammoth ivory.
The elephant has a 24 karat gold “Button in the Ear”. It is 14cm tall.
The set, including the bear and the elephant retails at £25,875. The set is only available by special order.
