Ah yes....Those golden halcyon days when the toy torch was passed from natural hand-crafted materials to cheap, nasty plastic ;-)

Well, to be fair, the plastic had made huge inroads by the 50's and 60's (mostly made in Korea) then came the next wave of Chinese plastic goods and we've never had it so good, or bad, depending on how you look at it. I mean, check out the detailing on the latest Mattel figurines!

The hand-crafted toys of yesteryear may have been more beautiful and collectible, but those from the 80's etc had one vital advantage - they were fun. I'd rather have a Transformer than a stick and hoop!

Never forgot the smell of that plastic! I actually owned this very one. Never the same after bath time.
