American Girl introduce Civil Rights era doll
American Girl have introduced a new doll from the Civil Rights era called Melody Ellison to celebrate Black History Month and the company's 30th anniversary.
It is only the company's third African-American doll to be featured in their historical BeForever line-for which the company have been heavily criticized. Like other dolls in the series, Melody comes with her own back story. She is a 9 year old Motown loving choir girl living in Detroit who is beginning to learn of Civil Rights Movement.
Like other American Girl dolls, Melody does not come cheap. The doll alone will set you back $115 while the rest of her accessories (which include her very own music recording studio) come in at around $900.
