Waldron correspondence, with very fine strike of 'FALKLAND/PAID/ISLANDS' circular 'RED FRANK' at upper right, M/S '6' rate mark in magenta ink alongside, and mostly very fine type F1 despatch circular date stamp at lower left.
Very fine arrival backstamp of 'AP 2 78'. Carried by 'Sparrow Hawk' to Montevideo, and thence by RMSP 'Mondego to Southampton.
Trivial cover faults (small part of flap missing) but neat and attractive, being one of the finest of the 23 recorded 'Red Frank' covers (including three registered and one to the USA), of which four are to this address.

The first recorded use of these franks is on a a cover to London date stamped 4 January 1869. The use of these franks ceased when the first stamps were issued.
