USA 1875 30c deep orange (Reprint), SG50
USA 1875 30c deep orange (Reprint), SG50.
A wonderful fresh unused (without gum as issued) example with vivid colour and well centred for this difficult issue. A scarce 1875 reprint from the original printing plate by the Continental Bank Note Co specifically produced for the 1876 Centennial Exhibition.
A scarce stamp, particularly in such fine mint condition. 10,000 were printed (50 impressions). Only 480 were sold; the remaining 9,520 were destroyed on July 23, 1884, by order of the Postmaster General.
The stamp depicts Franklin (after bust by Jean-Jacques Caffieri).
Accompanied with a 1980 Philatelic Foundation, New York (PF) Certificate of Authenticity.
A similar quality example sold at auction in the US last year for $4,200.
