MOROCCO AGENCIES 1899 25c ultramarine, variety, SG12/c
Morocco Agencies 1899 25c ultramarine, type 2 De La Rue overprint, upper right corner plate '2' block of 6 (2x3), R3/5 showing Hyphen between 'nc', SG12/c.
A brilliant quality mint positional block of six with original gum. One of the normal stamp with a couple of short perforations, immaterial to overall fine quality and value.
Attractive and very scarce in this proving positional form. Only 1,006 sheets were originally printed, with a high degree of postal use.
Following a decision to identify the exact revenue derived from the Morocco postal service, separate stamps were needed for the Morocco Agencies. This requirement further became necessary because of a Revision of Fees Ordinance in Gibraltar, which required all fees to be collected in Sterling, while the Morocco Agencies continued to use Spanish currency. This led to the introduction of Gibraltar stamps with 'Morocco Agencies' overprints.
