I.F.S. Soruth 1949 (May) 1a on ½a black and deep blue, Type 19 surcharge, ERROR SURCHARGE DOUBLE, SG58a.
A fine used example for this rare surcharge error with part ‘OCT 49' circular date stamp.
Spectacular and extremely rare Indian States error with no reported mint examples known.

The administration of Junagadha state was assumed by the Government of India on 9 November 1947. An Executive Council took office on 1 June 1948.
Under the new Constitution of India the United State of Saurashtra was formed on 15 February 1948 comprising 221 former states and estates of Kathiawar. A referendum was held by the Executive Council of Junagadha which then joined the United State on 20 January 1949.
It is believed this issue was only used in Junagadha which were surcharged at the Junagadha State Press.
