NEW ZEALAND 1909-16 6d carmine, SG403a

£425.00
SKU JC2273

New Zealand 1909-16 6d carmine, two-perforation block of 4, SG403a.

A lovely fresh unmounted mint block with full original gum. Lightly folded perforations and a tiny surface mark on one stamp barely detract from what is a delightful piece of King Edward VII philately.

A very scarce block, especially in unmounted mint condition.

In 1907, the status of New Zealand changed when the country was proclaimed a Dominion as opposed to a Colony. As a result, in March 1908, the Postmaster-General announced that the 1d Penny Universal would be reissued with the words 'Dominion of New Zealand' in place of 'New Zealand' and that King Edward VII stamps would be issued in 1/2d, 2d, 3d, 4d, 5d, 6d, 8d, and 1s values.

Stamps depicting Edward VII continued to be produced for over a decade after his death.

The Stanley Gibbons catalogue value is £500+.
