Polish coins and medals collection to cross the block at Spink
A collection of 40 Polish coins and medals will star in a sale at Spink London on December 2-3.
The lots date back to Poland’s renaissance era and are of exceptional quality.
Among the highlights is a 1547 ducat of Sigismund I the Old, which is valued at £20,000-30,000 ($30,598-45,897).
Sigismund is a colourful figure in Polish history and the coin is extremely rare.
Also featured is a 10 ducat coin issued under the reign of Sigismund III Vasa, which carries an equal valuation of £20,000-30,000 ($30,598-45,897).
The auction house comments: “Earlier this year Spink offered just a small part of this extensive collection formed in the 1950s and 60s by a Polish gentleman living in England after the war, some exceptional prices were realised and the entire sale was a great success.”
