The Bishops Wood Hoard of Roman Coins, discovered in a field near Ross-On-Wye in 1895, had remained in the possession of the family of the landowner who discovered them until 2010. Thought to be a cache of coins intended to pay the Legions, the remaining coins were sold as 11 lots to a single bidder.
