First US penny makes almost $1.2 Million at auction
One of the very first US Pennies ever minted has sold for almost $1.2 Million in Baltimore with auction house Stacks Bowers.
The 1792 birch cent is believed to be one of less than a dozen examples in existence-and could even have been in the hands of both Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.
It was minted before some of the first large-scale runs of coins by the US Mint, which was was established in 1792.
