Vintage Narragansett beer clocks are collectible items of breweriana advertising.

According to the 1930 Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act’s definition, “vintage” refers to pieces manufactured within the last 100 years and can include items made as recently as the 1980s.

Narragansett beer

Narragansett, officially known as the Narragansett Brewing Company, is a US brewer based in Rhode Island, US.

The company took its name from the Algonquian Native American tribe, which is based in Rhode Island.

The company was established in 1890 and became the leading brewer in New England for a period before closing in 1981. It made a return in 2005 and is today again sold in the New England area in small numbers.

Vintage Narragansett beer clocks were produced between the 1950s and 1980s.

The come in a range of styles, many of which light up. Rectangular versions, depicting a fisherman clutching a fish, are rare.

Collectors should be wary of modern day clocks featuring Dr Seuss artwork from the 1940s. The children’s book author was employed by Narragansett in the 1940s to design a series of advertisements.
