Vintage White Castle mugs are collectible ceramics produced by the US fast-food restaurant chain White Castle. According to the 1930 Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act’s definition, “vintage” refers to pieces manufactured within the last 100 years and can include items made as recently as the 1980s.

White Castle

White Castle is a US fast-food restaurant based in the mid-west and New York.

Established in 1921, it is thought to have been the first fast-food chain. It established the now commonplace in-store assembly line and now has more than 400 outlets.

The company is famed for its thin, square hamburgers, known as “sliders” as well as its castle-shaped restaurants.

White Castle mugs and collectibles

White Castle has produced mugs throughout its existence, in a variety of different designs. The earliest designs from the 1920s are particularly sought after.

The company is famed for its collectibles, including scale models of its castle-shaped stores.

How much are vintage White Castle mugs worth?

Good-condition vintage pieces from the 1940s and 1950s can change hands for around $15 on internet auction sites.

Some of the most collectible examples are those which can be transformed into an ashtray when turned upside down.
