RM Sotheby's Paris sale add rare Porsche and iconic Mercedes
A rare Porsche and an iconic Mercedes-Benz are the latest additions to the RM Sotheby's Paris sale.
The two cars are amongst 60 hand-picked automobiles set to cross the block in the annual sale, hald as part of the world-famous Paris Retromobile Week.
First up is a rare and significant 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder, chassis no. 550-0068, which wowed crowds when it made its public debut on display at the 1955 Frankfurt Motor Show. Having been raced throughout North America during the 1950s, the car is expected to sell for €2.8-€3.5 million ($2.9-$3.7 million).
“Porsche 550 Spyders are extremely rare at auction, so it is a real delight to be able to offer this important Frankfurt show car at our Paris sale,” said Max Girardo, Managing Director, RM Sotheby’s Europe.
The second new addition is an icon of German engineering, a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL ‘Gullwing’. Having been superbly restored, chassis no. 5500272 comes with an estimated value of €1.2-€1.6 million ($1.27-$1.69 million).
“In addition to these latest entries, we are also excited to feature a selection of very affordable classic cars, ideal for anyone wishing to get involved with the hobby for the first time or for anyone looking for quality on a more limited budget," added Girado.
"For those new to the hobby, our team of specialists will be on hand to guide participants through the auction process and assist with expert condition reports.”
RM Sotheby’s Paris auction takes place at Place Vauban on February 3, 2016, immediately after the Festival Automobile International.
